Feel like you are losing too much time on the internet instead of doing something productive? Feel like you might be addicted to the computer network? Well, do not panic but researches show that 50% of teenagers actually admit that they spend way too much time on the internet! First of all, the most important effect of internet addiction include problems which affect social health.
This effect may cause you to be more isolated from family and friends. In the present day, people
interact less with people face to face and spend more time interacting face to screen. This may cause
problems in social relationships between family members and friends.

Moreover, internet addiction affects physical well-being. When using devices, 99% of the time you
are seated or lying down. On average, Americans spend hours every day on the internet. As time
passes, this habit leads to improper posture. This may cause back and neck problems along with
disproportionate posture. (Carson-DeWitt) Also, spending more time on the computer means
spending less time exercising and going out, which may cause overweight.

One other important category is emotional health effects. The internet has changed the way we
interact with each other and unfortunately, it has created new ways for young people to become
depressed. Cyber bullying, for instance, is a good example of how internet can cause a great
emotional effect in people. Some teenagers have even committed suicide from cyberbullying.

Effects from internet addiction are difficult to notice at first, but as time passes, these effects can
affect your productivity in your daily life and your health. The best advice I can give you is to use
technology and your time wisely and most importantly, to not abuse its. Internet addiction is
normal, but just like any dependency, it is possible to get over it.
