Internet addiction:Effects of Internet Addiction
INTERNET ADDICTION
Did you know that 50 percent of the teens actually admitted that they feel addicted to their mobile devices?(Joyce) Internet addiction has many effects on teens. Usage of devices like phones affect teens’ grades and performances in school, usage of mobile devices too much worsen family relationships, and texting on social platforms like Facebook and snapchat make people antisocial and take away their courage to actually talk with other people in the real world.
The use of internet greatly affects students’ grades and performance in school. For example, teens do not get enough sleep because of texting and getting distracted while doing their homework or studying. Repeatedly, studies have shown that today's adolescent students are seriously sleep deprived, and that it affects their health, their mood and their safety(Mazzola). The use of some social media has good effects too, like helping adults build networking skills. Also some platforms of social media, like reading books and newspapers, do not lower academic performance.
Most of the teenagers get distracted by devices and don’t pay attention when they are together. Screens are also impacting our safety: 56 percent of parents admit to using devices while driving with kids in the car(Joyce). Children’s addiction in technology, from texting and playing video games, limit their ability to communicate with their parents. When the parents arrive home after work, their children are so focused on their phones that they were greeted only 30 percent of the time and was ignored 50 percent of the time.(Taylor)Also, parents can have hard time to get used to the new technology that their children have already mastered.
Using internet too much took some peoples courage to talk to others. It has become a comfort zone to us, especially when it comes to interacting with others. Many people have become so used to using social media that face to face interactions have become really awkward.Even when we do have the opportunity to have a face to face interaction with someone, we may be unwilling to do so. Also, younger people prefer communicating online than having a face-to-face conversation. When people are in the same room and communicating by texting or messaging instead of speaking to each other, there’s a problem that they need to solve.
In conclusion, these three effects of internet on teenagers and adults, tell us that using internet, mobile devices, and gaming consoles too much has some good effects but mostly has bad effects on both our social life with our family and friends, and our grades and school performance.
